2 Corinthians Chapter 8 - July 9, 2008

8:4-5 - Begging to relieve the saints - is that the attitude of the American church? Do we longingly look around for who we can relieve through help and resources? In Burma a tidal wave has left over 200,000 dead because the Burmese government refuses to allow in foreign aid...is the worldwide Christian Church begging to relieve the Burmese? We don't need to ask "why isn't God doing anything for these people," we need to ask what we are doing ask God's hands and feet for these people. When we give ourselves fully and completely to God first...there will be a great deal afterwards to give away to everyone else (More in fact, than we could have given before giving to God!). Let us beg together - God please help us to be your hands and feet in this world...God please help us to put others above ourselves...God we are begging you to help us relieve our fellow Christians in this world.

8:12 - If you are ready to give...give! Don't wait for what you think you should give which you don't have...just give. Give from what you have. Give with the knowledge that God is longing to pour out good gifts...give because you have more to give than you know - you are tapped into a infinitely powerful, loving, creative God...give (Hopefully you understand this implies more than jut money!).

What stuck out to me in today's text is toward the end of the chapter when Paul says "20 We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift. 21 For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man." Even here we see a believer going out of his way to remove any doubt someone may have about Paul's commitment to Christ. Paul is going our of his way for the perception of integrity - not just having integrity, but removing any opportunity someone may have to question it. The question here is: are we doing everything we can to protect our perception of integrity? In being people of integrity, are we going the extra mile to remove any opportunity someone may have to question our integrity?
