The Holy Spirit is usually behind being “cut to the heart” (37). The Word pierces us especially when we know that God is right and we are wrong. 3000 in one day – I hope they are all in heaven – I would love to hear each of their stories.
This sounds like right here, right now – (40) With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."
In 42-47 – makes me wonder if we could do that in today’s world – selling possessions and goods to give to anyone as they needed. What or even who would we being willing to give up in order for someone else to come to Christ...
If it ever comes down to it, I pray that God will give me the strength to always choose Him, even if my cost here in this life is high – not necessarily my life, but the lives of those I love... j
Two things: when the Holy Spirit came, it fulfilled the prophecy that it would come upon men and women. I don't know if you see the significance, but women were promised this same gift. How incredible is that? In an age where women and children weren't considered anywhere near men were, Jesus came down and loved on the children, and God sent His Spirit upon women! The other thing that I thought about was the description of how the early believers lived according to verses 42-47. It seems like a communist type of living that worked. Why can't we do that today? My simple answer to that is that the community described here was one that consisted of commited believers. Believers who shorlty after witnessed the acts of Ananias and Saphira, and knew that the commitment was not light. A strong core of commited believers made this happen. I don't know that it would work with a body of people that consists of non believers today. When I read Acts and try to apply today what was taught, I don't see communism.
